Audience influence

December 6th, 2007

A new study quantifies what performers have known for a long time; the bigger the audience, the bigger the reaction. In this study they watched the reactions of people watching films clips either alone or in groups. The more people who were present, the more likely people were to enjoy something.

This adds credibility to the importance of gathering your audience in a close group if you’re performing in a big room. It also emphasizes the idea that a big room isn’t always the best venue.

Personally, some of my favorite shows have been in small 80 seat venues.
